Gold & Blue Split Doubleheaders

The California Warriors Gold Team split an exciting double header against the Easton Cats on Saturday June 11th, losing a tough fight in game 1 but bouncing back to snag the win in game 2.

In the first game, the Gold Team fell behind early but were able to fight back in the later innings to give themselves a chance. Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the 6th, Christian Merriwether delivered a game-tying, 2-RBI single, but they would prove to be the last runs scored by the Warriors as they eventually fell 5-3. Quinton Gago tossed five strong inning on the mound for the Gold Team, and Whit Urdan threw the final two innings.

Game 2 also saw the Gold Team fall behind early, but this time around, their comeback would not come up short. After trying the game up in the 4th inning, the Warriors Gold put together a 3-run 5th inning to take the lead for good. Chris Giles had a big RBI single to power the comeback, and Matthew Pasual-Mead produced a 2-RBI triple to give the Gold Team a 5-2 lead. Nathan Kochhar pitched 4.2 strong innings before Matthew Pasual-Mead earned the win while holding the Easton Cats scoreless the rest of the game.

The California Warriors Blue Team faced the Easton Cats in a double header the following day, also coming away with a win and a loss.

The first game of the day had a dramatic ending, as Sean Robinson hit a walkoff single to score Tyrell Cabrigas, giving the Warriors Blue a 5-4 win. Daniel Colwell started on the mound for the Blue Team, and pitched five strong innings before Isaac Sloan came on in relief to earn the win. Center fielder Dane Goodman had a solid game for the Blue Team, notching two hits including an RBI double. 3rd baseman Justin Torres also had a strong game at the plate, as his 2nd hit of the game was a 2-RBI single that tied the game in the 7th.

Game 2 did not go the Blue Team’s way, as an early 6-0 deficit turned into an 11-3 loss. Charley Moore started on the mound and threw three innings before Gremelt Balladares and Chris Blyskal combined to finish the game. Bright spots offensively were two hits apiece from Chris Giles and Jake Schmidt.
