Three-quarters of the way into the season, the California Warriors Collegiate team is looking very strong.  The Warriors are playing some of their best baseball of the season, sitting in second place in-league; they are currently 21-12 overall and are 8.5 games out of first in league action with an 8-6 record.  The top four teams in the league make the playoffs, and the Warriors will make one last push to reach the top before the playoffs kick off on August 1st.  They will finish their season with eighteen consecutive league games, half of which are to be played at home, including five games at USF.

Denis Karas leads the Warriors’ high-octane offense with an unbelievable batting average of .500 to go along with four home runs, and he is third on the team in RBIs with 18. Karas was a 24th round draft pick of the Pittsburg Pirates this year, and will start his freshman year at UC Berkeley in the fall.  On the mound, the dominant, consistent pitching of Mateo Fernandez continues to lead the Warriors to victory, and his four wins and 28 strikeouts make him the team-leader in both categories.

The Warriors are entering their most important and exciting stretch of the season.  You can come watch the Warriors continue fighting for their spot in the playoffs at Marin Catholic on Sunday, July 13th at 1:00 pm and on Tuesday, July 15th at 5:00 pm.  You can also follow the Warriors’ playoff push on Pointstreak.
