Fighting Obesity, One Baseball Game at a Time.

October 2, 2012 | 0 Comments

Obesity is a huge pandemic in the United States, especially among people under 18. In a recent study published by the journal Pediatrics, researchers at the Hood Center for Children and Families at The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth University found that pre-teens and teenagers can significantly lower their chances of adulthood obesity by playing on at least one sports team throughout high school. In a 1718 person study, the Hood Center looked at how team sports participation, other extracurricular activity, recreational activity, and diet affected the physical status of teenagers, and noted that team sports participation has the strongest and most consistent relationship towards teenagers maintaining a healthy weight.

The First Base Foundation believes wholeheartedly that everyone should have access to sports activities and healthy nutrition, regardless of socioeconomic status. This is why we are committed to bringing baseball to the communities where these opportunities are most needed.
