Starting in 2016, the new NCAA guidelines for GPA eligibility go into effect, creating a higher academic standard for incoming Freshmen to play. In order to be able to play immediately as Freshmen, student-athletes need at least a 2.3 GPA with an increased sliding scale. For example, getting a 1,000 on the SAT means you need a 2.5 high school core-course GPA to compete and a 2.0 high school core-course GPA in order to be eligible for financial aid and practice. In addition, prospective student-athletes also need to complete 10 of the 16 total required core courses before entering senior year of high school. Out of these ten courses, seven must be in English, math, and science.
